Our Theater Mission
Bringing Art to the Seattle Community
Seattle Community Theater was founded in 2024 by Sue Heale as part of her dissertation project for her master's degree in Theater Directing and Scriptwriting from the University of East Anglia, in Norwich, England.
With a goal to relaunch her work in the Seattle area and bring community and amateur theater and events to the Greater Seattle and Eastside communities, Sue serves as our Producer and Founding Director. Our volunteer-driven group welcomes performers of all ages and skill levels. We are thrilled to have a live orchestra at our performances and garner the support of hundreds of volunteers who have made our first seasons a success.

In just three seasons, we've had over 120 actors in our productions, sponsored 7 internships for theater students and budding professionals, and hosted over 1100 audience members.
Our home base is at Almost Famous Performing Arts Hub in Totem Lake, Kirkland

Our Seattle troupe is currently rehearsing in parks and homes and meeting in coffee shops as we grow and seek a permanent home on the Seattle side!

Mission Statement
Seattle Community Theater strives to provide theater education and performance opportunities to budding actors of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities.
Core Values
-100% participation– We find a way for everyone who auditions to participate in our shows.
-Inclusive of all ages- Our productions have included children’s ensembles as well as adults in their 70’s
-inclusive of all abilities- Our productions have included members of the neurodiverse community, including from Lake Washington High School’s highly special needs program
-Inclusive of neurodiversity- our 2026 new puppet program is targeted to provide accessible theater for kids age 3-10 who struggle to participate in traditional theater settings
-Remove barriers to participation– we are working with a team of neurodiverse artists to develop our puppet program, artists who bring their own lifelong experience as neurodiverse persons to their work
-Promote new and emerging artists and works- each show, we sponsor 1-2 paid stipend internships for up and coming professionals in the theater field. Past internships have been awarded to costumers, assistant directors, directors and orchestra conductors. Our 2027 internship for Iolanthe will be for set design and construction.
-Educational workshops– Starting in the fall of 2026, we will offer periodic events and educational opportunities to lovers of theater. Sue has also recently taught Intro to Acting classes at the Redmond Community Center. She has also spent the past 3 years coaching members of our group in writing a new musical that we'll be debuting in March of 2027.
-Periodic community building events- Our group recently participated in filming a commercial with Washington Shakespeare Festival
